Overcoming Life’s Great Mountains

This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground.

Zechariah 4:6-7

Climbing Mt. Korobaba a few weeks ago, left me contemplating how we often struggle with life’s so called ‘great mountains’. At times during the hike I felt like giving up, I couldn’t help but draw parallels from life. I mean, what do you do when life deals you a tough hand like rejection, defeat, unfairness – when you find yourself praying that things like death, cancer and war won’t happen to you and yours. To come to terms with the fact that there are times when we have to say goodbye to the ones we love the most, shed a tear out of frustration and just cry “WHY?”

Changing Pastures

I saw a painting of a large boat laden with cattle that were being ferried across an angry swollen river in time of storm. The artist had so cleverly pictured the dark, threatening clouds and the play of the treacherous jagged lightning that I immediately concluded that the freight of poor dumb cattle was marked for destruction. But the title on the painting was simply “Changing Pastures”.

Many times we imagine that God’s plans mean disaster and affliction, but he is simply “changing pastures,” for our good and welfare of our brethren.

Love Until Your Hands Bleed

Friday afternoons were always a time to look forward to as a student at the Fiji Institute of Technology – School of Arts. Not because it was the weekend and classes had finished early but because you never knew what to expect during liberal class. The lecturers were such a blessing as they often came up with creative ways to motivate students into doing community work. Often there were clean-up campaigns organized down by the foreshore or at Suva point which was usually followed by touch rugby or a scrumptious lunch. There was even a time when students helped distribute second hand clothing to street kids. It’s always great fun doing such activities with friends. People you know well and enjoyed being around. DEVOTED

But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!

Romans 13: 11-14 MSG

These past weeks have really been very hectic and demanding as I was preparing this month’s issue of Ignited, I couldn’t help but keep my headphones glued to my ears; not only to drown out the noises around me but also the ones in my head. A song that is currently being repeated in one of my playlists is the title track on Citipointe Live’s latest album, Devoted. It has become my new anthem. The song begins with this line, “I’m losing my whole life, in your purpose and for your heart’s desire…” This I suppose is what Paul was talking about in 2 Corinthians 5:15 where he states. “And He died for all that they which live should not… live unto themselves but unto Him which died for them”. In other words he is saying that Jesus doesn’t often ask us to DIE for Him. He asks that we LIVE for Him. Continue reading DEVOTED
